Rüsselsheim/Berlin. And the winner is: The Opel Astra. Opel’s new compact class star was recognized at the Oscars of the automotive industry in Berlin, winning the “Golden Steering Wheel” in the compact class.
The South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) announced the finalist vehicle ranges for the 2016 WesBank / SAGMJ Car of the Year (COTY) competition during an interactive reveal event at Langhams Lifestyle Estate in Johannesburg. Hosted by WesBank, the competition’s headline sponsor, and the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ), the finalist reveal followed a vote cast by a 26-member Jury, elected by their peers, of an original list of 45 eligible vehicle ranges.
The Opel brand received high recognition today in the 2015 Women's Car of the Year Awards for best car in the hatchback and multipurpose vehicle (MPV) categories.
The stylish Opel ADAM that was introduced to South African consumers in January this year, emerged the winner in the hatchback category while the Opel Mokka, launched in March, gained favour as preferred MPV.

General Motors South Africa (GMSA) has confirmed the imminent introduction of two new Opel vehicles to the South African market. The new Opel ADAM and Opel Mokka will be introduced to South Africa for sale in 2015 as part of a global product offensive by Opel which will see the German brand introduce 27 new vehicles and 17 engines in applicable markets by 2018.
15 JUY 2014 - Rüsselsheim. Opel starts major construction project at its Rüsselsheim headquarters: the company continues its investment offensive, allocating 210 million euros to the construction of a complex of buildings - the tallest being seven stories high - on the south-west sector of the International Technical Development Centre (ITDC) premises. On a total building surface area of around 36 000 square meters, from 2017 engineers and technicians will develop the powertrains of the future. The new centre will also house 43 newest-generation performance test benches.

The Rüsselsheim based manufacturer continues to be the second largest brand of General Motors and strengthened its position as the third-strongest passenger car brand in Europe according to preliminary figures.
