The most powerful road-going Opel Astra ever, the OPC EXTREME made its debut to mass acclaim in Geneva. A concept that comes very close to future realism, it puts race technology to work on the road.
Visibly an Opel Astra but way out ahead in detail, the Astra OPC EXTREME mixes outstanding design with race technology. A logical development of the thoroughbred Cup racing model, it brings a weight saving of circa 100 kg over the Opel Astra OPC model.
Front and rear spoilers, the roof and rear roof spoiler, bonnet, front suspension cross bracing and even the 19 inch special wheels are all made from ultra-light carbon fiber. The front fenders are made of aluminum. Just think of it as high-tech high speed.
Inside, the rear seats have been removed. Driver and front passenger sit in specially designed Recaro bucket seats with 6-point safety harnesses, which are optimized for the professional HANS protection system, and a safety cage is standard. Carbon fiber detailing is matched by a special competition steering wheel which features soft suede over a carbon reinforced structure.
To add even more emphasis the paint is deeply layered with decal enhancements to add depth and highlight the athletic stance and clean overall lines. The result is a bold statement of power in motion.
With over 300 hp available from the 2.0 BiTurbo engine, both the brakes and suspension of the Opel Astra OPC EXTREME have been optimized to handle it. By using carbon fiber for the wheels the unsprung weight has been further reduced, delivering noticeably improved handling. Brembo 370 mm front discs with 245/35 19 inch tires all-round, together with race derived adjustable suspension keep the Opel Astra OPC EXTREME firmly on track and under control.
The carbon fiber roof is a key element in reducing weight, just 2.3 kg instead of 9.7 kg for the steel roof, and it is also a major factor in lowering the cars center of gravity. In fact, by redistributing and lowering the vehicle weight, the directional and sway stability of the vehicle has been improved near to professional racecar levels.
When we say that with the fastest road going Astra ever you are exploring the extremes, you can be 100 percent sure that we mean it.
